The most popular option is to take the train. This is a high-speed service that will get you from Rome to Naples in about two hours. The trains are usually punctual, comfortable, and relatively inexpensive. Another great option is to drive from Rome to Naples. The fast toll road, the Autostrada, is a simple route to follow and shouldn’t take more than two hours without traffic. Another fun thing to do in Naples is visit Castel dell’Ovo, which translates to “Egg Castle.” This seafront fortress was built by the emperor Frederick II in 1175. Legend has it that the Roman poet Virgil placed an egg under the foundation of the castle, and that if it ever broke, a catastrophe would befall the city. It’s a neat place to visit for a little history and some fantastic views of the bay of Naples.
